MULTIBAND  ASYMMETRICAL  INVERTED-V:

Aerial-51's Model 404-UL is an ultra-light horizontal antenna covering the 4 clasical hf ham radio bands (40/20/15/10m) plus the 6m VHF band.  With an antenna tuner it also works great on 17 and 12m.   30m is NOT covered by this antenna though it may be used on this band with an ATU and reduced power (maximum 50w).

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Ultra-lightweight construction:
    • Antenna Weight:  220 gr.
    • Coax Weight:       180 gr.
    • Total Weight:      400 gr.  (14 oz.)
  • Overall Length:     20.5m  (67 ft.)
  • Typical SWR:
    • 2:1 or less on 40/20/15/10m
    • 2.5:1 on 6m
    • less than 4.0:1 on 17 and 12m.
    • about 2.5:1 across the [11m] CB band
    • see SWR curves (by band) in the gallery below.
  • Power Rating:
    • 200w SSB/CW on 40/20/15/10
    • 200w SSB/CW on 17 & 12m
    • 50w SSB/CW on 30m (with an ATU)
  • High-Quality Components
    • Stainless Steel Hardware
    • CQ-534 Copperweld Wire (lightweight but extra strength)
    • Special Lightweight Coax (lower loss than RG-174)
    • PL-259 with gold-plated center contact and Teflon insulation
  • Unique Matching Unit
    • Designed specifically to match the common-mode-current supression needs of the Model 404-UL

INSTALLATION:

  • The Model 404-UL was purpose designed for use with lightweight telescoping fiberglass poles, such as the Spiderbeam 12m fg pole. It should be installed as an Inverted-Vee with its matching unit mounted on the pole and coax spiraling down the pole (as shown in the picture below).
  • Its ultra-light weight enables installing it near the very top of this pole giving you a DX-edge over similar antennas installed at lower heights.
  • It is NOT intended to be strung between two supports as a flat top dipole.  It may be used as a flat top but then you must use 3 supports (one for supporting the matching unit and  coax ).
